Biographical Sketch
Dr. Joyce L. Brock
Joyce is a native of Washington, D.C., the fourth
oldest of fourteen children representing a fourth
generation of born again believers, and one of seven
in her immediate family called into the ministry.
She has a rich heritage in Christ and as a young
girl experienced and witnessed the mighty move of
God demonstrated through signs and wonders as God
used her grandparents and parents. From her parents
and grandparents she learned spiritual intercession,
spiritual warfare and a deep love for the Word of
God. She is so grateful for the foundation that God
has laid in her life.
She was saved at the age of thirteen under the
ministry of her grandfather (by marriage) - the late
Bishop Benjamin L. Lumpkins, of the Old Pentecost
Church in Washington, D.C. Her father, Bishop Brock,
assumed the pastorship of the Old Pentecost Church
after the passing of her grandfather. Joyce
continued to serve in various capacities in her
father's ministry until the Lord directed her to
serve at their headquarters church - Bibleway Church
located in Washington, D.C. It was here that as she
served as a missionary that she was directly
mentored by the ministries national missionary
leader, and her assistant. God began to use her to
travel with these leaders to help build up smaller
churches. She also had her first experience with
helping to plant a church on the east coast.
Having been called of God into the ministry of the
Gospel while on the east coast, she was instructed
in the mid 1970's, as was Abraham in the book of
Genesis, to "Get
thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and
from thy father's house, unto a land that I will
shew thee" (Genesis 12:1). She carried
this directive in her heart for ten years, never
telling anyone what God was saying to her. Not
knowing her time to obey the command of Genesis 12
was drawing near, around 1985 God began giving her
Isaiah 43:18-25 "Remember
not the former things, neither consider the things
of old, behold I will do a NEW THING...." This was such a powerful message, and God
assured her that "her life
would change and never be the same again".
Further instructions included: "Joyce, you GO and I will take care of you"-"As
you GO, preach" Matthew 10:37,
"Feed My sheep"
John 21:15-17, and "Preach
Jesus!". Indianapolis, Indiana was her
God-given destination.
Joyce arrived in Indianapolis in May of 1988 not
knowing where God would have her serve. Finally in
1989, God planted her in the ministry of Bishop
Morris E. Golder where she served as associate
minister until his death in July 2000. Under his
mentorship God continued to establish her ministry
to include her first public ministry - Women United in Prayer
- Intercessory
Prayer Network where the intercessors
gathered once a month for a citywide morning of
prayer service. God continued to expand her ministry
until today she serves as senior minister of a
multifaceted ministry -
Better Living Ministries, Inc. She
also completed her education which she started on
the east coast earning a Ph.D. in Clinical Christian
Counseling. Her pastor passed on in July of 2000,
after which the Lord released her to further works,
including the planting of a church and the
establishment of New
Life Christian Counseling and Training Center
where she equips those called into the ministry of
counseling.
The
call of God to "GO" is ever present in Dr. Brock's
life as she moves under a prophetic apostolic
anointing. God continues to send her forth to
establish , assist in establishing, and to edify and
strengthen the body of Christ as she ministers the
gospel of Jesus Christ in Kingdom building.
